What is the Menschen (People) B1 German course? The Menschen B1 German course provides reading, listening, and grammar practice. It will help you speak with confidence and fluency so that you can interact with people in your new language. You'll absorb the culture through authentic materials, no matter what your occupation or interest. It is designed so students who are diligent over time will be able to reach an upper-intermediate to advanced level of proficiency. How does the Menschen B1 German course work? Students should take one lesson each day for at least six days per week. The lessons should take about 30-60 minutes to complete each day if done correctly. A typical day would look like the following: Lesson 1-Listen to the audio lesson. Listen to the audio lesson twice if possible, once at normal speed and once at slower speed. Lesson 2-Do the reading exercise(s). Understand your text by skimming it first, then read it carefully. "Read for gist." Look for key words and pick out useful information from each paragraph. Students should focus on comprehension rather than translation, but they can make a rough translation if necessary. Focus on understanding what you read rather than word-for-word accuracy--in other words, don't worry about making mistakes in German. Lesson 3-Practice your listening skills. Listen to each audio lesson twice if possible, once at normal speed and once at slower speed. Lesson 4-Practice your grammatical skills. If you have difficulties, mark them down in the progress tracking sheet for that day's lesson. Check your mark every time you do the exercise to make sure you are doing it adequately before moving on to the next exercise. Check your progress often so you don't forget how well or how poorly you are doing with each exercise. This will help ensure that you work hard enough to improve. Lesson 5-Practice your reading skills. Find a quiet place to read, then read your text carefully at least twice. Students should focus on comprehension rather than translation, but they can make a rough translation if necessary. Focus on understanding what you are reading rather than word-for-word accuracy--in other words, don't worry about making mistakes in German. Lesson 6-Do the lesson review activity(ies). Review your progress so far by completing the lesson review activity(ies). If you have time after doing all of this, there are several optional activities. You can either do one or more of these or you can do none of them. There are many fun activities to help with reading fluency, but most are optional. Students are encouraged to comment on each other's work, but they are not required to. It is acceptable for them to just record grades on the progress tracker sheet then move on to the next activity(ies). There are many optional activities that students can do after completing the lesson review activity(ies). The less important activities might be skipped, but students should always do at least one of these activities per day: These optional activities include games, exercises, card games, stories and artwork/photos/videos online. 13cfa1e7782077
